History

Wheathampstead has a rich historical heritage and in recent years has developed a Heritage Trail, Heritage web site and a rejuvinated History Society.

Visitors to Wheathamstead can obtain three free folding map of walks in and around the village. One leads the reader along a 2 kilometre walk around the village centre providing background information on buildings, their occupants and other events of historical note.  The second map covers six longer walks of between 4 and 8 miles in length into the wider countryside with similar information and additional information on natural history.  The third map is a plan of all of the footpaths in the parish for those who wish to create their own walks.

Maps are available from local shops or by contacting the parish council offices. Click here for contact details.

More detailed information on Wheathampstead’s history in the form of a virtual museum is available on the Wheathampstead Heritage web site. You can also dowload route maps from the Wheathampstead Heritage site.
