WW1 Centenary memorial oak benches in Rectory Meadow

A few years ago, a 100 year old oak tree was felled in Rectory Meadow, as it was rotten and too close to the houses nearby.

Rather than see the oak go to waste, the Parish Council recently had local carvers create two benches and a table. Yesterday, the carvers finished their work by carving an inscription to commemorate the WW1 centenary, as well as a painting a beautiful poppy on the table.
