Bluebells thrive at Devil’s Dyke
The bluebells are looking lovely at the moment. Why not enjoy a spring walk along Devil’s Dyke, our very own Statutory Ancient Monument?
But please don’t pick them. And take any rubbish away.
Uninvited guests have now left Butterfield
Huge thanks to all involved – members of our community, police, local authorities.
Butterfield Nature Reserve
Huge thanks to our Wheathampstead Open Space Volunteers for ‘seed’ planting the Butterfield chalk scarp with tiny plug plants. Hoping that the banks will soon re-naturalise and become a haven for insects and the like.
In the summer, thanks to s106 grant funding we will be installing a hard topped circular path making the nature reserve more accessible for everyone to enjoy
Unauthorised incursion at Butterfield
We, St Albans District Council, Herts County Council and Herts Police are aware of the unauthorised encampment on Butterfield Playing Fields. Police visited the site early this morning.

In Remembrance
HRH The Prince Philip
Duke of Edinburgh
10 June 1921 – 9 April 2021
Wheathampstead Parish Council joins the nation in mourning the death of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh.
With deep sorrow Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh who passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
The Duke was married to the Queen Elizabeth II for more than 70 years and became the longest serving Consort in British History.
In light of the current restrictions our plans have been amended. We are unable to open a physical book of condolence but suggest that those wishing to share condolences with the Royal Family may choose to use the Hertfordshire Lord Lieutenant’s online book of remembrance .
