Can you entertain from home? Musicians and dancers wanted!

Are you a budding musician or have you been performing for many years, with the facility to video yourself performing from home? Are you a dancer or part of a dance group that misses dancing together? It is not essential but it would be even better if you can perform 40/50s music.

If this is you, then please email Ellie at info@wheathampstead-pc.gov.uk – we would love to talk to you about a special event we have coming up!

Lights Up – a festive success!

Once again, Wheathampstead came together in true community style for our annual festive light switch on event held on Thursday 28 November 2019.

The event kicked with off with some fantastic singing from the local schools, which included Stevie Wonder’s festive classic, ‘What Christmas means to me’. The lights were thereafter switched on to great cheers and even Santa had the time to join in!

Santa’s Grotto, which was organised by the Wheathampstead Community Group, was incredibly popular and raised much needed money for the organisation.

Despite the rain, feedback from residents was extremely positive, with comments about the tasty pizza and the quirky gifts available from the market stalls.

What a wonderful way to kickstart the festive season!

Road closure reminder – Lights Up 2019

You may have seen on the advanced warnings notices that the High Street is closed for Lights Up on Thursday 28 November 2019. The closure starts at 4pm, however there may be limited access from 3.30pm. The closure and will end by 8.30pm, however this could be earlier if the event is cleared quickly.

The section of High Street being closed is from Church Street to East Lane. Church Street, Lower Luton Road, Marford Road and East Lane car park are not affected and will remain open.

Please remember to plan your journey between these times accordingly. Access will be granted to those living on the High Street and Granary Close, if it is safe to do so.

Lights Up 2019 – Winners

A huge well done to all of the poster competition entries from the local schools – the artwork this year was fantastic as always!

The winners are Ben Coomber, Marta Marnauza and Oscar Morrell – congratulations! Their posters will be put up throughout the village over the next few days.

Each winner, plus the runners-up, will receive a letter via their school giving details of how to collect their prizes.

Remembrance Day Service & Parade

Wheathampstead Parish Council and St Helen’s Church invite you join the procession from Church Street (by the entrance to Bury Green) at 10.45am, thereafter gathering at the War Memorial outside the church in time for a two minute silence at 11am. Reverend Richard Banham will hold a short service outside, followed by a service within the church.

Everyone is welcome.

Lights Up 2019: Christmas Market – Stalls needed

We will be once again having our Christmas Lights Up event on Thursday 28 November 2019 along the High Street.

In order to give the event more of a Christmas market feel, we would like to offer a small number of spaces for stalls. There will be no charge for a space. However, as space is limited, priority will be given to small local businesses selling gifts etc and local not-for-profit organisations wishing to promote their services. All stalls must be as Christmas themed as possible so as to not detract from the festive feel!

If you would like a stall, please email Ellie at info@wheathampstead-pc.gov.uk.
