Wheathampstead is a wonderful place to live and work, or visit. A caring community with huge togetherness of spirit. All spoilt by a few inconsiderate individuals.
Our latest ‘victim’ is the bug hotel in the Meads Community Orchard.
If you know those responsible please contact the police on 101
With the changes to restrictions on social distancing we are now able to reopen our sports facilities. The public tennis court is now available to book, as is the Artificial Turf Pitch.
St Albans City & District Council will be launching the new Response Capital Funding at the beginning of April. This grant will allow year-round applications with grants awarded between £200 and £2,000 from a total pot of £6,000. It is for organisations in need of small capital items to aid their delivery of services. Examples include IT equipment, portable ramps and sports or arts materials.
The new Community Project Funding will also be launching this year. It will be allocated twice-yearly and open for applications in May and November. Grants of between £500 and £5,000 will be awarded from a total fund of £41,000 available.
This grant will be aimed at smaller organisations for time-limited projects which meet community needs.
If you would like more information about application criteria and how to apply, please check https://www.stalbans.gov.uk/grants for updates.
We are experiencing continuing problems with someone dumping foodwaste in the Diamond Jubilee Garden – our little haven of tranquillity by the Mill Quay. This is totally unacceptable, liable to attract vermin, bad news for animals who might think it is a possible snack.
If you spot the offender please contact the police on 101, or our PCSO Alex Olteanu (alex.olteanu@herts.pnn.police.uk)
The Parish Council will be holding its Annual Parish Meeting virtually on Wednesday 31st March 2021, 7:30pm.
At 8.30pm Dianne Payne will give a presentation on her latest book ‘Wheathampstead an Eighteenth Century Village’.
Having reviewed the Government’s Covid roadmap, with earliest lifting of restrictions being 21st June, we have decided to cancel Picnic on the Meads, scheduled for 10th July. We are looking at possibly rescheduling a scaled down ‘Village Day’ ( was 11th July) later in the year, possibly early autumn. Watch this space for updates.
Picture of Memorial Hall Redevelopment
We’re redeveloping the Memorial Hall, upgrading and making it fit for purpose, including a new studio area. This has been designed as a health, wellbeing and exercise space for the Wheathampstead community. Do you want to be part of our future? We are looking to lease this space on a long term basis.
Three floodlights have been broken (two at the artificial turf pitch and one at the tennis courts) during the past two weeks. It is believed that this was done intentionally and has subsequently been reported to the police.
If you saw or know of anything that may help the police with their enquiries, please contact 101 and quote crime reference number 41/7844/21.
