Trial period for weekend lighting on the astro turf pitch

As of 28 December 2019, the floodlighting for the ATP on Marford Playing Fields will be on during the weekend evenings, as well as during the week.

Council have agreed to a trial period of six months. If it is felt that this is being abused, the lights will no longer be on during the weekends (unless hired privately).

The ATP can be used Monday-Saturday 9am to 9pm and Sunday 9am to 8pm*.

Please be mindful of the rules, such as those regarding correct footwear, litter, noise etc.

* These times are in line with planning conditions.

What do you think about the policing budget?

The Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd would like to hear Councillors’ and residents’ thoughts about funding for the Hertfordshire Constabulary as he is looking to raise the policing precept in order to maintain a larger force. For more information on the Comissioner’s plans, visit bit.ly/precept2020.

You can thereafter complete a quick survey here.

The survey closes on Thursday 9 January.

From Hertfordshire County Council:

The public byway between Sheepcote Lane and Codicote Road will be closed for up to 21 days (starting 3 December 2019).

The closure is due to the surface damage along the byway, which is being repaired. Once the works are complete, the aim is for the byway to be more accessible to walkers and cyclists.

See below road closure notice.

Lights Up – a festive success!

Once again, Wheathampstead came together in true community style for our annual festive light switch on event held on Thursday 28 November 2019.

The event kicked with off with some fantastic singing from the local schools, which included Stevie Wonder’s festive classic, ‘What Christmas means to me’. The lights were thereafter switched on to great cheers and even Santa had the time to join in!

Santa’s Grotto, which was organised by the Wheathampstead Community Group, was incredibly popular and raised much needed money for the organisation.

Despite the rain, feedback from residents was extremely positive, with comments about the tasty pizza and the quirky gifts available from the market stalls.

What a wonderful way to kickstart the festive season!

Children in Need are coming to Wheathampstead

BBC Children in Need and The One Show’s Rickshaw is well under way after setting off on Friday from Holyhead, as six young riders have embarked on a challenging 400 mile route making their way to London as they raise money for Children in Need along the way.

On Friday 15 November – the final day of the challenge – they be passing through Wheathampstead, as Team Rickshaw pedals its way to the final destination of Elstree, for the live BBC Children in Need Appeal Show that evening.

They will be coming along the High Street at around 2.25pm, and they would love for the village to cheer the team on as they ride through. It really does make all of the difference!

You can also see the exact route here, and the team can also be tracked live at this link: http://live.opentracking.co.uk/cin2019/.

Make sure you are there to cheer them on!
